Caps Complete Sweep 3-2

While the road has been rocky for the Capitals thus far in their inaugural season, home has been as smooth as fresh poured asphalt. The Caps took the lead in the first and didn’t trail the rest of the way, taking down the Stars for a series sweep 3-2.

Almost immediately into the first period, Georgy Ostapchuk bested Chris Mallon with the first goal of the game at :23 (assisted by Jayden Munnelly and Niko Greco). Dallas’ Brandon Salisbury tied the score midway through the period and that’s where things would stay until the final 20 minutes.

In the third, Greco and Ostapchuk connected with Munnelly who found room between the pipes to make it 2-1 Caps at 2:24. Greco scored a goal of his own at 12:22 to give the Caps some breathing room with 7:38 remaining (assisted Nick Manney and Munnelly). At 13:24, Tommy Stock narrowed the margin back to one with an unassisted goal and the pressure was on for the Caps defense who Dallas forced into overtime just the night before. But Jude Hull stood tall in the net and the final seconds ticked away, leaving the Caps with their sixth straight home victory.
