Topeka Capitals goaltender Brett Malkmus, reaping the benefits of a strong season, has been called up to the Topeka RoadRunners of the NAHL. The Bismarck, ND, native is in his first year as a Capital.
"I've been fortunate to know the Malkmus family for the past 3 years, and coach both Brett and older brother Tommy,” said head coach Anthony Bohn. “We can't be more proud of Brett and the opportunity he's earned with his time with us. He's a competitor with a high work level that wants to improve every day, we know his time with our parent club will help his development for the future."
Following his brother Tommy, a standout forward for the Caps last season, Brett has distinguished himself amongst the goalie rotation. In 13 games and over 685 minutes in net, Malkmus has made 298 saves (.895 save percentage), collected two shutouts, and averaged on 3.06 goals-per-game on his way to a 7-3-1 record. Malkmus becomes the third Cap to advance to the NAHL this season, joining Tre Opack (Coulee Region Chill) and Jacob Pelton (Topeka RoadRunners).
The Capitals begin a three-game series against the Texas Junior Brahmas this weekend starting Friday (3pm), Saturday (3pm), and concluding Sunday (11am). Tickets are only $5 and parking is free. For more information on tickets, call 785-286-PUCK or visit the Expocentre Box Office.
